IDEATION/STORYLINE
For our Final Project, we were asked to create a 30s stop motion video about any of the PSA themes that we were given.
I decided to choose mental health as my theme because I feel like it's a very important issue that is often pushed down the rug. I decided to use paper as the material. I then created the ideation, storyline, shortlist, etc, and compiled it into a presentation to present the idea.
ANIMATICS
We were then told to make the animatics for our stop motion video. The video could only be 30 seconds so we had to be very precise with the shots.
After receiving feedback, I was told that the 'walking' scene took too long and I should instead focus on showing the main character experiencing various difficult situations throughout the day. So I decided to change the story line.
REVISED STORYLINE
ACT 1
A man wakes up with a frown in his face.
He puts on a happy mask.
ACT 2
He goes on with his day and goes to work.
His boss is mean to him and he overworks himself.
After a long day at work, he walks out of the office, still with a happy face.
He walks home and it rains, despite being rained on, he still maintains his smile.
ACT 3
At home, he finally takes off his mask.
He reveals his real expression - and he breaks down crying, and his broken heart is also shown.
As he gets into bed, a blanket is put on him, a bandage is put on his broken heart.
I did not have time to redo the animatics as I immediately started working on illustrating all the needed characters, items, etc as I knew it would take up a lot of time.
