Professional Developement Week

REFLECTIVE REPORT

As this semester is my final semester, it was compulsory for me to attend 6 workshops or webinars during Professional Development Week. All the webinars I attended were very insightful and meaningful, and I learned a lot from them. Here are some of my key takeaways.

I joined 3 different webinars on the first day, the first workshop I attended was the "Financial Literacy for Fresh Graduates" workshop by Maybank. This webinar taught me so much, including the budgeting rule, which states that individuals should split their money 50 percent on needs, 30 percent on wants, and 20 percent on financial goals. Furthermore, adhering to a budget plan is critical for tracking spending prior to generating the budget. Maybank also assisted me in gaining a better understanding of some of the elements. The first is Investment Preparation, which entails self-assessment and the creation of emergency reserves while understanding risk tolerance. The second section is Steps in Zero-Based Budgeting, which includes things like putting down monthly income and spending and defining categories like savings and bills. The last one is Home Buying Tips, which is to buy within your means. The webinar also mentioned what people should not do in budgeting. For instance, stop spending more than you earn, impatience, and unwise use of credit cards. As a design student I never really had any classes about budgeting etc, so this was very informative and helpful for me. I also joined ZaSve Universal Design's “Accessibility & Universal Design Project Implementation" Webinar where I learned about the goal to make architecture, interior, and designs accesible to everyone including those with disabilities. Then I joined the “Working on World Class Projects in Game & Entertainment Industry” by PASSION REPUBLIC where Mr Lum Siew Hongwas presented several game art designs, concepts and other proejcts that his company has done before. A key phrase I took from this webinar was to "phase yourself and learn as much as I can". I think it;s really important to remember that we're in a constant learning phase and we will never learn "enough", there will always be room to grow and learn.

The workshop I attended on the second day was the “Best Practices and Personal Branding Strategy using LinkedIn” webinar. I only started using Linkedin recently as I was doing my internship program earlier this year, so the page is still quite foreign to me. In this webinar, I learned a lot about developing a professional network and boosting my career on LinkedIn. Furthermore, Professional Brand enables us to demonstrate how distinct we are from others and develop our brand by how we portray ourselves to others. LinkedIn is used by the majority of businesses to hire and assess prospective workers. As a result, creating a LinkedIn profile can help you locate work. Next, I need to develop an appealing LinkedIn CV and profile, as well as a decent photo, so that an employer will be more likely to view my LinkedIn page. Following that, developing a professional network is critical for our future job career, especially if we can identify and get to know others who work in the same sector and firm as us. In this scenario, we may leverage LinkedIn's network to connect with the opportunity. For example, we may question them about corporate culture and informational interviews, or what we should work on before joining the firm, which will allow us to acquire career guidance and be more prepared. Then I also joined the "Enhancing Your Business Acumen through Creative Arts” webinar by ENFINITI ACADEMY. I learned that creative arts have lots to do with business, as business acumen is a key charactersitic for leadership. Good leadership requires presence & charisma, clear communication, the power to influence and inspire others, critical thinking, etc. I really enhoyed this webinar because I learned to see what I do (creative arts) from a different perspective.
