Project 1
For our first project, we were told to create a key artwork based on the topic that we were previously given for the Typographic Systems exercise.
I chose 'All Ripped Up : Punk Influences on Design' as my topic. I then proceeded to search for references regarding this topic.
I then started with my first attempt in photoshop, however, I wasn't satisfied with it.
After receiving feedback, I decided not to continue my first attempt and created 3 new designs.
After receiving feedback I decided to choose the 3rd design and proceeded to make changes to it according to the feedback that I received.
This is the final result of my key artwork:
FEEDBACK
Week 6
General feedback: We should do more research on the topics. We should make it black and white.
Specific feedback: I should work on it more. It's not there yet. I shouldn't use 'patches' for all my fonts.
Week 7
There was no class this week
Week 8
General feedback: We should make our posters in A3 size.
Specific feedback: I should get rid of the spacing in the 3rd artwork and instead of putting a white box, I should just make space for the words.
REFLECTION
Experiences:
Week 6
I felt very lost and had no idea what to do for my key artwork. I felt my first attempt looked more like a poster, instead of a key artwork.
Week 7
We didn't have class this week so I worked on several key artworks.
Week 8
After receiving feedback, I decided to focus on one of the key artwork I decided on,
Observations
Week 6
I saw that a lot of people were also having difficulties with creating their key artwork, however, some people did a great job and I learned a lot from them.
Week 7
No class
Week 8
This week, everyone showed really great and creative works.
Findings
Week 6
I found this task quite challenging and felt very lost in the beginning despite already searching for references.
Week 7
I did more research this week and continued creating new artworks.
Week 8
I learned a lot through everyone's work. This was an interesting project and I learned a lot from it.

I found the book very informative and learned a lot about typography from it. It discusses a lot of things in detail about fonts. In the book, it is said that there are 2 basic kinds of fonts which are Outline and Bitmapped, which I have never heard of before.
Bitmapped fonts are created when digital technologies (a device) draw a picture of every character as an array of dots and
store these drawings in a font. Then all a device has to do to image the type is
to copy those dots into place on the screen or page. When this technology was
first figured out, each one of those dots was represented by one bit of computer
data—a simple yes/no choice of whether to image a dot or not. However, the more dots a bitmap
contains, the more computer data it requires. As the resolution of the device
increases or the size of the character images increases, the number of dots
grows geometrically: Doubling the size of a character quadruples the number
of dots. Meanwhile, outline fonts, store character images as outlines
described mathematically as a series of curves and straight-line segments.
(These line segments are sometimes called vectors; and the fonts based on them,
vector fonts.) These outlines can be mathematically scaled to any size without
distorting the shapes or proportions of the characters.
